This snapshot of the Laundry-come-Utility at Blackbirds, which was created out of an almost redundant corner of the garage we converted into a home office. It's a very small space, yet there is room for a washing machine with tumble drier on top, a small Belfast sink, a spare freezer and small fridge (useful indeed when working in the office as it has a separate entrance from the main house). There is even room for a large swing-bin, and a big tub with lots of gardening paraphernalia such as gloves and secateurs etc. not kept in the shed. In fact, this space, apart from the daily washing load necessitated by family life, gets much of its use when we are coming in and out of the garden - for the washing of hands or general muddy things, the rinsing of herbs and such-like, and the cleaning of small tools - rather than having to take them into the kitchen.
Best of all, budgeting for and creating such a space, frees up so much room in the kitchen - especially helpful when the kitchen is of modest proportions! The mounted Provendi French Soap as well as the eco friendly glycerine soap block and washing flakes, were all from one of my favourite small businesses to support, based in Yorkshire, www.frenchsoaps.co.uk/collections/french-wall-soaps. Highly recommended!
