Books are absolutely essential to a mid-century modern home. To any home! Despite the rise of the kindle and its ilk, nothing could ever replace the sheer and simple joy of holding an actual, physical book. Moreover, on a shoestring budget, books are one of the most affordable and effective props you can hope to use. The possibilities are endless and the joy of pottering through bookshops whether new or secondhand, timeless. For today, I will share my love of Puffin young readers, so I will begin with this photo, a 'take 2' of the one I posted on instagram (@blackbirdsandme) a little while back: ... And that is the simple truth!
For the mid-centurians amongst us, nothing is more likely to fill us with nostalgia than the sight of the Puffin paperback in all its unassuming beauty, taking us straight back to our childhood and early teen years. How many a quiet hour was whiled-away with one of these? How many exchanged hands, or were highly recommended, borrowed or bought? If you are the proud owner of any original Puffins, treasure them, as their like will never be known again... (Apologies to my good friend (and fellow mid-centurian) @reddogpublicrelations [instagram]) whose name is inscribed inside the cover of Barbara Willard's The Sprig of Broom: I see that I never returned it to you... Stake your claim now or forever hold your peace! ) I will add more about books from time to time on my blackbird has spoken blog, so keep tuned & I would love to hear about your favourite Puffin, too! The blog will shadow my instagram account too, so check in with @blackbirdsandme as well! Comments are closed.
